Hardware Donation

Please note the new hours and please check what we accept.

Hours: Wed-Sat, 11 am - 5 pm

Free Geek aims to promote reuse by repairing or refurbishing systems that would otherwise be recycled. We accept donations of working electronics, provided they follow our donation guidelines.

Hardware can be dropped off at the back entrance of our depot (located in the alleyway between Victoria Drive and Salsbury Drive), please do not drop off anything during closed hours, or you may be fined.

End of life electronics that we don't take can be dropped off for recycling at certain Return-It Depots, including the one nearest to us, at 1856 Powell St.

For drop-offs larger than a van's worth of gear, please call ahead so we can be ready. Our loading dock has a 41" height. A docking plate is available. We can accommodate trucks with a bed/box no longer than 23'.

Data Privacy

Maintaining the privacy is very important to us. When you drop off a computer at Free Geek, our procedures ensure that its data contents will never be looked at, that all of it's drives will be wiped or destroyed.

Free Geek can provide Certificates of Data Destruction for a fee of $10 per drive.

Please note that we do not destroy CDs, DVDs, Floppys or Tape mediums on site. We do send them to a certified ewaste recycler, that have their own certified data destruction policy, however we cannot guarantee that safe stewardship of data, so please make sure sensitive data is destroyed or archived as you will be dropping them off at your own risk.

Tips

You can make our volunteers' jobs easier by:
  • Untangling cords and coiling them with rubber bands, tape, or twist-ties
  • Attaching power adapters to their associated equipment
  • Resetting phones, cameras, and other devices to factory defaults, including erasing all data
